About Us

St James is a Church of England presence in the heart of Cobbydale. We are in the Bradford area of the Leeds Diocese. Predominantly our congregation live in Silsden but we extend a welcome to everyone. There has been a church on this site since 1712. You can read more about the history of the church
here.
Our two services are designed to cater to all tastes. The earlier service at 9.30 is a traditional Holy Communion Service lasting approximately 45 minutes. Twice a month there is an organist and we sing hymns both traditional and more modern. On other weeks we accompany recorded singing from a choir at St Martin in the Fields.
The second service, at 11.00, is a more contemporary, and less formal, service. Different topics are covered each week, taken by different members of the congregation. Newer songs are sung, either accompanied by a keyboard, or video recording, but we also have time for the old faithfuls.
In between the services, starting about 10.15, there are refreshments served in the community hall, and a time of fellowship enjoyed by all.
At the back of church there is room for children to sit and complete colouring sheets and/or puzzle sheets. We also have a selection of bags containing toys, books, crayons and paper for toddlers.
We play a big part in Churches together in Silsden, alongside the Methodists and Catholics. We also have involvement with several community groups such as Silsden Gala, Christmas market and Nativity
